About Ray

Ray Roper Bio Ray Roper is a veteran of the West Coast music scene in Canada. He is a renowned producer singer/songwriter & a multi instrumentalist musician. He has worked in the music industry for 50 years, is still performing live, still in high demand as a musician, very active in song writing that leads to radio airplay all over the world and is also very busy as a producer in his recording studio. Ray was born in London, England with his family immigrating to Vancouver, Canada when he was 6 years old. He has spent most of his adult life active in the music scene in Vancouver. Ray's early musical influences were the blues rock greats such as Clapton, Beck, and Blackmore. Later in life, his influences shifted to Yes, Genesis and Jethro Tull. The 1970's was a great time for music and Ray's first recording band, Stonebolt, scored a record deal with Parachute/Casablanca, in the USA. Spearheaded by Russ Regan and Neil Bogart, Ray's band Stonebolt had a top 30 single called “I Will Still Love You”. Ray had the opportunity to be the lead voice on this single (the song is still well loved in 2025 when Ray performs it live)! Upon Neil's Bogart's death, Stonebolt signed with RCA and followed up with 3 more albums and a greatest hits package on the Vortex label. During the years that Stonebolt was recording albums, Ray realized his intense interest in the recording process. It was during those sessions from 1978-1982 that he cut his engineering teeth under the tutorship of long time Engineer, Laurie Wallace. Once his studio skills were honed, he went on to teach Audio courses at a Vancouver studio named The Universal Institute of Recording Arts. Ray produced demos and records for clients, garnering a number of credits along the way such as Denise McCann, Brian MacCleod and Dragonfly. After Stonebolt went on hiatus in 1984, it was a natural progression for Ray to start a solo band and play the local music scene in Vancouver, Canada. The Ray Roper Band was active from 1984-1989, one of the major highlights for the band came in 1987. They performed at a phenomenal gig opening for The Kinks concert at the Colosseum in Vancouver, Canada. Over the years, Ray has performed with well known Canadian band Trooper Hot Shots for benefit concerts and shared the stage with other iconic bands like Prism, 5440, and Burton Cummings, to name a few. Fully established as a musician/ performer and Producer, Ray met with SB Mackhigh Stanton in 2019, to help finish a song she had brought to his studio. The results were stunning, so they did another song together to see if lightning would strike twice and it did! Their similar work ethic and co-writing chemistry led to a studio recording agreement and a co-writing partnership that has been successful to this day. They have created more than an album of single releases from 2019 to 2025, with every one of them being played on radio around the world and on all streaming platforms. In 2024, Ray & SB Mackhigh Stanton became a Duo and they have a distribution deal with The Perry Music Group Nashville who sends their music out globally via Sony The Orchard. As a co writer, Ray has won awards with SB for Songwriter of the Year in 2021, and one of their Christmas song's won Holiday Song of the Year in 2023. Ray's production and engineering work with SB saw her receive the 2023 Female Artist of the Year award in the USA. Ray & SB have had a few number one songs on radio and a number of Top 10 & Top 20 cuts as well, which has garnered lots of attention for Ray's songwriting, musicianship, Engineering and Production skills. In 2022, Ray's studio welcomed classic rock legend Paul Rodgers. Ray engineered all the tracks for Paul's latest solo album, Midnight Rose and was credited as Executive Producer. Ray also had the great honor of playing guitar, mandolin, harmonium & synth on Midnight Rose, a memorable moment in his career as a musician and as an Engineer/ Producer ! As 2026 begins, recording, producing and performing are still the mainstays of Ray's professional endeavors and staying true to the music he's always held reverent.
